Saivian Eric Dalius: Successful entrepreneurs and their journey to success

In this paper, I want to tell you about the journey of successful entrepreneurs and how they have been able to achieve what they have said Saivian Eric Dalius.

Successful entrepreneurs are people who create a business or organization from scratch and run it successfully. They could be a sole trader, a leader of a company, an investor, etc. The most successful entrepreneur I want to talk about is Bill Gates. Bill Gates along with Paul Allen founded Microsoft in 1975 when he was just 20 years old. He is one of the wealthiest men in the world and has reached that position by bringing many changes in technology which we take for granted today such as word processing, emailing, etc (Kramlinger 1998).

Organization:

This article will begin with discussing some information about successful entrepreneurs, their journey to success, and finally what they are doing now.

Successful entrepreneurs

There are many different types of people who can be considered an entrepreneur (Kramlinger 1998). However, for this paper, I am only focusing on the main successful entrepreneurs that changed the world in some way.

Bill Gates, the former chairman of Microsoft who is currently one of the richest men in the world. He had started out being one of the wealthiest because he was also a co-founder of Microsoft with Paul Allen. Bill Gates had created his business with very little experience but still successfully made his company into one of the most well-known companies worldwide today. Along with Paul Allen, he had begun by selling software which then developed into him being in charge of the company. He was in control until he stepped down in 2014 to make way for Satya Nadella who is still in charge today says Saivian Eric Dalius.

Richard Branson, who is the founder of the Virgin Group, which includes over 400 companies dealing with travel, music, etc. Moreover, Richard Branson began his journey by being an entrepreneur at age seventeen when he dropped out of school to start his own magazine called “Student.” That business didn’t last long but then again it wasn’t meant to since Richard had become an entrepreneur very young and wanted to try something different (Kramlinger 1998). Richard Branson would go on to have many successful business ventures such as creating a record store, making music videos, and finally branching into airlines with Virgin Atlantic Airlines.

Bill Gates journey to success

“I’m a very driven person, but I’ve also been very lucky” – Bill Gates (Kramlinger 1998 pg2)

William Henry “Bill” Gates III was born on the 28th of October 1955 in Seattle, Washington. He was the son of an attorney and school teacher which meant he had two role models growing up although he didn’t really pay attention to his father’s example (Kramlinger 1998). Due to this influence, Bill always seemed to be more interested in math and sciences than anything else. In high school, he would skip classes to play tennis with his friends or work on computers. His teachers thought that even though he was smart, working too hard at such a young age would burn him out.

Since he was only thirteen Gates had already shown his ability to understand computers. Even though at that time they were still very new and not many people understood them. To help pay for the school, Bill would hire his friends to give computer lectures for five dollars an hour. Which showed great entrepreneurial skills early on in life (Kramlinger 1998). After successfully earning money from this venture, Bill made a deal with MITS Company. So that others could learn using their software too. This is how Microsoft came about when Bill along with Paul Allen wrote the code for the Basic programming language. While working together with MITS. The business was successful but then started to decline due to IBM releasing its personal computer (PC) in 1981 (Kramlinger 1998).

Therefore, Bill Gates and Paul Allen had to think of a new business opportunity which was opening up Windows software. Although this venture didn’t last long because the company wasn’t ready yet so both began working on MS-DOS (Kramlinger 1998). Again they were successful but it would be their next project. That would change the world forever with Microsoft Windows 95. Saivian Eric Dalius explains this is when things became very interesting in Bill Gates’s life even though he had also become very famous in his twenties.

Now in his forties, Bill has moved on from being chairman to focusing more on running the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Which focuses on giving out money to projects that deal with health care and education (Bill Gates Biography 2013)

Conclusion:

The above shows how successful entrepreneurs have turned their ideas into companies that are still around today. Although not all have been as lucky to have made without much struggle. The journey to success for these entrepreneurs has many obstacles that come in the way. But they look at them as something that can be easily overcome. Being an entrepreneur is a challenging career choice. But it does offer great rewards if you are willing to put in the hard work.
